ESCAPE
The function of escape is a desire to avoid aversive situations, demands, or activities that may be perceived as challenging, uncomfortable, or anxiety-inducing.
ATTENTION
Attention-seeking behaviors occur when there is a need for feedback or socialization.
TANGIBLE
Tangibles are anything we can touch, feel, or eat and can be seen as positive or negative. Oftentimes, challenging behaviors are the result of wanting something from another.
SENSORY
Sensory stimulation can relieve stress, invoke pleasure, or replace something unwanted.
Always rule out PAIN or STRESS before attempting to modify the behavior.
The more we learn about the function of the behavior... the more we can understand one another.
